This position is responsible for leading campers ages 5-16 in a variety of YMCA programs daily, ensure safety and well-being of campers, participate in planning and implementation of quality YMCA programs and objectives, and serve as a positive role model. Must be 18 or older
Must have a High School Diploma or GED
1 year of experience working with children preferred
Ability to lead campers in at least 2 of the following areas: recreational games, drama, crafts, outdoor education, songs, sports, aquatics, team building or science
Ability to supervise and interact with campers
The physical ability to lead in group activities and to perform related physical skills
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and repetitive hand motion is required
CPR/AED and First Aid, must include both Adult & Infant/Child, certified upon hire and must be from one of the following:
American Red Cross
American Heart Association
American Safety & Health Institute
Contribute to planning and implementation of the daily program in accordance with YMCA policies, and ACA standards
Plan and implement lesson plans in areas of outdoor education, arts & crafts, cooking, sports or recreational games, drama, singing, team building and science
Create an age-appropriate learning environment, which allows for and fosters creativity and individuality in the campers
Provide constant supervision of assigned campers at all times
Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers in the group and entire camp
Maintain a positive and responsive relationship with staff, campers and parents
Encourage positive social skills and appropriate behavior by example
