The Group Fitness Coordinator will provide a premiere member experience, value, services and retention programs by coordinating and implementing all group and aqua fitness programs for the organization. The Group Fitness Coordinator is accountable for the operational oversight of group fitness and aqua fitness including but not limited to the supervision of instructors, class development and schedule coordinating. This position will work with the Senior Director of Health & Wellness and Central Operations to ensure effectiveness of program offerings and needs of the Organization.

  • At least 2 years of experience in group fitness leadership is preferred
  • Nationally recognized certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to relate well to the public
  • Ability to build a robust team with diverse responsibilities
  • Exceptional customer service and delivery skills
  • Create, coordinate and oversee all group land and aqua fitness programs and schedules that reflect the needs of the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA community
  • Support the hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation process for group fitness instructors
  • Instruct high quality group classes in land and water
  • Work with group and aqua fitness instructors to ensure adequate class coverage and communication; instructing when needed
  • Ensure group fitness equipment is audited for safety and programmatic needs
  • Keep accurate class attendance records
  • Keep accurate instructor certification and reporting
  • Cultivate relationships with members to drive member retention
  • Ensure the YMCA’s high standards of quality, safety and program impact are implemented
  • Maintain working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective programs and support to members
  • Act as a leader in the wellness departments for the organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Nationally recognized certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM)
  • Current certification in CPR and AED; complete trainings in Child Abuse Prevention and Blood Borne Pathogens
