Outdoor Education Instructor

Camp Jackson is looking for Outdoor Education instructors who will enthusiastically represent the YMCA by displaying a positive attitude, maintain a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job through the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Outdoor Education Instructors will assist the Camp Director in providing quality programs that are safe, fun and encourage guests to grow and learn in a supportive environment. Camp Jackson serves hundreds of students during the spring season and provides them with unique and memorable experiences learning in a gorgeous mountain setting. This position will help prepare and facilitate programs for elementary and middle school groups.  

Summer Season: 05/25/2024-08/02/2024 

• At least 18 years of age
• Red Cross CPR/First Aid Certification required
• Previous outdoor education or summer camp experience preferred
• High School Diploma required; College degree preferred
• Minimum of three months of full time or equivalent part time satisfactory and verifiable experience with middle school age children and teens. Six months is preferred.
• Must have a sincere and genuine interest in working with youth and should relate well to all age levels and backgrounds of people.
• Develop and facilitate lessons that teach leadership, counseling skills and camp program skills
• Ability to plan, initiate and lead small and large group activities
• Physically fit and able to hike, walk, stand, bend and lift comfortable over the course of a day
• Mentally and visually alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents
• Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer emergency care effectively
