Under the general direction of the Senior Program Director, the Child Care Director is responsible for the overall daily operation of the Early Learning Child Care. Major areas of responsibility and accountability include, but are not limited to, financial management, quality control, parent involvement, staff development, and implementation of curriculum and activities as they relate to the philosophy of the YMCA. The Director will supervise and train teachers and assistants in compliance with YMCA policy and philosophy of early childhood education.

  • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field from a 4-year accredited college or university.
  • YMCA Team Leader Certificate, or obtain within 12 months.
  • Minimum of five years practical experience working in Child Care capacity.
  • Minimum of two years proven supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of successful Child Care practices and quality program development.
  • Excellent financial skills including budget preparation.
  • Skills in project management.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Must maintain CPR/First Aid certification (training provided).
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Must have flexible work schedule.
  • Supervises the daily operations of the Early Learning Child Care Program and is the main point of contact with families in the program.
  • Family Engagement Strategies- implements proactive family engagement strategies, including parent workshops, family nights, and newsletters, to strengthen the home-school connection.
  • Develop, oversee and manage all budgetary items related to the operation of Child Care operations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs assigned staff and volunteers for the program. Reviews and evaluates performance.
  • Technology Integration – Explores and implements educational technologies to support classroom learning, communication with families and staff training.
  • Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Staff Wellness and Retention – Promotes staff wellness initiatives and work-life balance to increase retention, job satisfaction and positive work culture.
  • Carries out all aspects of the current strategic plan applicable to position.
  • Maintains all licensing records for the Child Care Center to meet State and local licensing requirements and NAEYC accreditation.
  • Conducts quarterly parent meetings to collect feedback for implementation and improvement of classrooms and Center management.
  • Prepares, maintains and submits weekly reports.
  • Completes monthly classroom observations for each Head Teacher and Teacher Assistant classroom.
  • Monitors the organization, appearance and appropriateness of Center décor, (i.e., Bulletin boards, classroom displays, learning materials, storage areas, etc.).
  • Maintains adequate classroom supplies by completing a monthly inventory.
  • Reviews and monitors curriculum implementation.
  • Coordinates and works with all other YMCA programs to ensure consistency and communication among all families.
  • Works with the branch Membership and Marketing Director to ensure that all advertising, social media, public relation pieces, etc. are accurate and of the highest quality.
  • Works with the Association Child Care Registrar to ensure that registrations and related information is accurate, on file and updated.
  • Participates in required Branch and Association-wide activities and events.
  • Participates in, and supports the Annual Campaign and plays a leadership role in this campaign at the YMCA.
  • Develops an annual professional development plan for self and staff to support continuous improvement and alignment with licensing and accreditation standards.
  • Participates on quality team committees as requested or necessary.
  • Becomes an integral part of the YMCA key staff team and works together to foster the growth and quality of all initiatives for the community.
  • As a member of the professional staff, shares responsibility for the administration of the success of the Branch performance and helps maintain a positive image for the Metro YMCA of the Oranges.
  • Cooperates with other staff members in planning and conducting special events and projects.
  • Maintains appropriate appearance, courteous demeanor, and positive attitude when dealing with children, staff and parents.
  • Demonstrates and models the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Exhibits personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to the Association.
  • Performs such other job-related duties as may be periodically assigned by the Supervisor.

Must maintain CPR/First Aid certification (training provided).
