This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Facilities Planning Administrator, the Facilities Technician is responsible for the cleanliness, safety, appearance and improvement of the facility and property.

  • Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures and equipment and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
    Attention to detail.
  • Ability to comprehend product labels and instructions to ensure safe product handling.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, their safety, and efficient use.
  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Ability to maintain reports and records of maintenance requests.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform duties with a determined timeframe.
  • Familiarity with personal computers helpful.
  • Ability to analyze and respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Ability to interact in a positive manner with members, guests, and team.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal.

1.    Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed in the maintenance and upkeep of assigned areas and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, vacuuming, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, pressure washing, cleaning and replacing soap, paper towels and other supplies. Other duties may include but are not limited to periodic updates to facility plans, developing and implementing projects in support of the YMCA strategic plan and community needs.
2.    Communicates status of projects and routine cleaning assignments.
3.    Anticipates risk, implications, and possible outcomes before taking action.
4.    Works with outside agencies such as fire, health, building depts., etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds.
5.    Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment. 
6.    Records and reports all needed repairs. 
7.    Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shifts and reports and documents all incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
8.    Understands and utilizes appropriate ergonomic safety techniques.
9.    Attend meetings as directed.
10.    Other duties/tasks as assigned.
