The YMCA of Saginaw seeks a dynamic, experienced Camp Executive Director to provide overall leadership to summer overnight camp programs and year-round group camping programs at YMCA Camp Timbers, a gorgeous 320-acre property with private lake and adjacent to Ogemaw State Forest. Camp Timbers is highly regarded and benefits from the outstanding support of our Saginaw YMCA Board, Camp Timbers Board, and Saginaw Y CEO.  The combination of leadership, strategic planning, and two capital renewal campaigns have all contributed to our positive trends at Camp Timbers. Recent new facilities include a 24-bed Leadership Center, two Bathhouses, Dining Pavilion, Sports Pavilion, and more.

The Executive Director leads a team of seasonal program staff and support services staff, as well as a small year-round FT staff team.  Director will work under the supervision of our association CEO. This position requires a passion for and understanding of the significant impact that a positive Y camp experience can have on those we serve. We have a high rate of seasonal staff retention, framing an “Experience, Connect, Grow” delivery mindset.

The Executive Director must be able to build strong relationships with campers and their parents, partner group participants, and group leaders and therefore must be proficient with active listening skills, patience, resolve, and effective communications verbally and in writing with a diverse population in a fast-paced work environment. The Director must demonstrate success both in working with teams, and the ability to work independently, to achieve results.

Additional requirements and preferences include the following: Candidates must have at least a 4-year college degree in a relevant field, be at least 25 years old, and have at least seven years of administrative experience in a summer overnight camp setting or the equivalent, including a minimum of five years of successful experience in developing and implementing programs in a variety of settings. Candidates will have prior experience supervising year-round, seasonal, and on-call program staff, maintenance staff, and food service staff. Must have experience developing and managing a budget of up to $1 million or can demonstrate the skills needed to develop and manage a $1M budget. Director will have responsibilities with the Y Invest in Youth (Annual Campaign) and will also lead additional fund development activities. This position requires leadership to alumni and volunteer development activities. 

Requires proficiency in Microsoft systems, and the ability to manage additional online CRM platforms. Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership skills, ability to multi-task, be detail oriented, and have strong organizational skills. Candidates will be able to demonstrate successful experience in training, supervising, and developing supervisory staff and volunteers. Must have experience in meeting State licensing and ACA accreditation requirements. He/she will have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound judgments related to all aspects of camp programs. Must have the physical ability to be active during the summer season for workdays up to 16 hours per day and to navigate challenging terrain on foot. Candidates will embrace a culture of ‘incremental improvements’ and be able to provide leadership to preventive maintenance systems related to property, buildings, and equipment.
