Swim Program Coordinator

The Swim Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the delivery, administration and evaluation of the swim program and swim lesson operations at the YMCA of Austin. Reporting to the Aquatics/Operations Director, this position will ensure that all programs are in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and standards. The coordinator may also be involved in various roles throughout the day, including acting as a swim coach or instructor as needed. Effective time and program management skills, as well as excellent communication and the ability to balance multiple priorities, are essential for this position. The ideal candidate will have a background in swimming instruct ion or coaching, as well as experience in program management and administration. The Swim Program and Lesson Coordinator will play a key role in helping the YMCA achieve its mission of providing high-quality, community-oriented programming to people of all ages and ability.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum one year Certified swim instructor/ coaching experience.
  • Hold current certifications or willing to obtain within 90 days: American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Safety Training for Swim Coaches
  • Preferred certifications: Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor Trainer
  • Effective use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends to accommodate YMCA at ACRC program

  1. Works closely with the Operations Director and Lifeguard Coordinator to support a well-rounded and inclusive aquatics program.
  2. Effectively teaches all levels of swim classes and serves as a role model for staff and members.
  3. Establishes positive relationships with parents and guardians of program participants and ensures their satisfaction with the program.
  4. Resolves parent complaints related to the swim program and escalates other issues to the Operations
  5. Director as appropriate.
  6. Submits complete and accurate documentation of swim lessons to the Operations Director in a timely manner.
  7. Supports membership retention and engagement by promoting the aquatic center programs to current and potential members.
  8. Complies with all YMCA policies, rules, and procedures to ensure a safe and positive environment for all.
  9. Manages the swim team program, including developing and implementing a progression curriculum, season plans, and practice plans that promote the development of competitive swim skills and core values such as teamwork, work ethic, and goal orientation.
  10. Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and manages swim coaching and instructor staff and volunteers for the YMCA aquatic center.
  11. Performs administrative tasks for the swim team, including registration, communication, team store management, and website maintenance.
  12. Take a leadership role in event management for swim meets and potentially other hosted events at the YMCA aquatic center.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the swim program and the aquatic center.
