This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility by developing, organizing, and implementing high quality, member focused, aquatic programs.The Lifeguard Coordinator at YMCA of Austin intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs. The Coordinator is responsible forguarding, recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new employees.This position will ensure that aquatic programming and experiences are safe, fun, and enjoyable. 

  • Minimum age of 18. 
  • Current American Red Cross or YMCA lifeguard (instructor preferred) and First Aid/ CPR, and water safety instructor certifications. 
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, and Westbend assigned classes. 
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. 
  • Hours vary depending on need, including weekends and evenings.
  1. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. 
  2. Recruits, hires, and trains diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success. Conducts lifeguarding trainings. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. 
  3. Creates monthly lifeguard schedule adhering to the needs of the pool schedule. 
  4. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with members and community members. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.  
  5. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  6. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.  
  7. Attend meetings and work with committees including program committees and things pertaining to aquatics. 
  8. Be an active lifeguard on the pool deck when needed. 
  9. Works with Operations Director to create and implement monthly in-service topics. 
  10. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or CEO.
$16.00 - $18.00
