The Certified Aquatic Professional (Director) at the YMCA of Central Massachusetts, under the direction of the Vice President of Youth Development and Community Services, will lead all components of the Community Aquatic Program – managing City of Worcester beaches and pool – while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or at least 4 years of experience in the aquatic field
  • 2 years of experience in supervision
  • Requires completion and maintaining certification as Lifeguard and Swim Instructor 
  • Strong communication and human relations skills in dealing with staff and members are essential. 
  • Strong decision-making skills, as it relates to aquatic safety and the efficient operation of the aquatic environment
  • Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public
  • Possess and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications
  • Ensures community aquatic services meet community needs – and are safe at all times
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools
  • Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance
  • Recruits and hires diverse staff across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; and compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in swim lessons
  • Assume responsibility for the physical upkeep of the pool and department; Serve as Certified Pool Operator (CPO) in partnership with other in the Association
  • Maintains certifications listed under Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations.
  • Receives and carries out instructions
  • Always maintain a professional appearance; wear clothing that meets the YMCA dress code.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Possess and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications
