This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Program Director will manage all aspects of the aquatic, adult & youth sports, and youth, adult, and family program departments of the Forest City YMCA in accordance with the mission, goals and policies of the association.  Forest City is a small, rural community of 4,250.  

•Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.

•YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.

•One to two years related experience preferred (e.g., as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor).

•Minimum age of 21.

•Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED,              and Bloodborne Pathogens training.

•Completion of YMCA aquatics training and trainer certifications, or willingness to become certified within 90 days.

•Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. 

1.  Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

2.  Recruits, trains, schedules and supervises diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity.  Onboard and develop them for success as instructors, lifeguards, referees, youth sports coaches, and other volunteers in assigned program areas.  Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.  Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.  

3.  Teaches and coordinates aquatics programs.  Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

4.  Manages youth & adult sports programming; creates teams; schedules practices, games, & events; develops & distributes rules & guidelines; purchases & distributes youth sports uniforms; coordinates team photographs; organizes & conducts sports clinics; monitor & evaluate the effectiveness of & participation in programs; secures, schedules, maintains the needed fields & facilities; & responsible for transporting program equipment for games & practices.

5.  Oversee, supervise, and coordinate Youth/Teen/Adult/Family Programming to include 5th Quarter, Mother/Son and Daddy/Daughter Dances, AOA Monthly Learning, & After School activities/events.

6.  Models relationship-building skills in all interactions; develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, parents and caregivers, and community organizations to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes; maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

7.  Organizes or participates in Y activities, such as committees, special events, and fundraising.

8.  Manages assigned program departments, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.  

9.  Requires flexible hours to work evenings & weekends during majority of scheduled programs.
