We are seeking a Program Director to oversee programs for our Maquoketa branch- part of the YMCA IMV association.

The Program Director oversees and managers the planning and execution of all YMCA programs ensuring they meet the needs of the community and align with YMCA objectives.  This includes recruiting, training, and supervising staff and volunteers, developing and implementing new programs, and managing program budgets. They also play a key role in community outreach, marketing program offerings, and building relationships with stakeholders. 

What You'll do:

  • Lead and manage new and existing programs to meet community needs and YMCA objectives. This involves developing new programs, expanding existing ones, and evaluating program effectiveness. 
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff and volunteers. Evaluate performance, provide feedback, and develop strategies to motivate the team. 
  • Develop and monitor program quality, budgets, and participant satisfaction.
  • Build strong relationships with families, schools and local partners. Manage and coordinate the use of facilities for program activities and events. Collaborate with community partners regarding use of other program venues.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Recreation, Sports Management, or related field) 
  • Prior experience working with sports, aquatics, and/or YMCA professional work in a related field (recreation, physical education, or related field) is required.  
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred. 
  • Proven record of successfully managing multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Able to respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in emergency situations.
  1. Serve as role model to members and Y staff and, at all times live the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA movement. 
  2. Develop, plan and supervise new and existing programs to meet community needs and YMCA objectives.  This involves developing new programs, expanding existing ones, and evaluating program effectiveness. 
  3. Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and supervises staff and volunteers. Evaluates performance, provides feedback, and develops strategies to motivate the team. Provides leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and supportive program environment. 
  4. Develops and monitors program budgets, ensuring goals are met.  
  5. Manage and coordinates the use of facilities for program activities and events. Collaborate with community partners regarding use of other program venues. 
  6. Establish and maintain positive relationships with participants and community partners. 
  7. Models strong relationship-building skills in all interactions, responding to inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. 
  8. Effectively promote and market programs to maximize growth of programs.  
  9. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of programs, making adjustments as needed. 
  10. Able to fill in for any program position as needed (i.e. YS Official, Coach, Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, etc.).
  11. Facilitate training and development opportunities for all program staff and volunteers (i.e. coach clinics, monthly aquatic in-service, etc.) to ensure completion and required certifications are obtained and maintained. 
  12. Provide accurate records and appropriate reports to comply with the requirements of insurance, state codes, and other regulatory requirements.
  13. Responsible for overall pool maintenance.  
  14. Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
  15. Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements. 
  16. Adherence to all policies and procedures of Scott County Family Y. 
  17. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
  18. Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
  19. All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

*Note: If not currently certified, must obtain certification within 30 days of hire. The * noted certification training programs are available at YMCA if needed.
