GENERAL FUNCTION:  This is a dual role between the Downtown Branch YMCA and Metro Operations.  

Under the supervision and direction of the Chief Operations Officer, the Senior Aquatics Director is responsible for the overall strategic development, management and growth of aquatics leadership, training and program growth while maintaining the highest level of safety.  

This position will work in partnership with the Downtown YMCA Branch Director to maintain the operations of the Downtown YMCA Aquatic Center which includes being responsible for safety, staff and programs through the development of Aquatic Directors in Training.  This role will require work outside of normal business hours and must be available to work an average of 50 hours per week.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Staff Development:  

1.     Manage all staffing aspects of the Aquatics Department for the Downtown YMCA.

2.     Schedule and manage all Aquatics professional development, certification courses and training for the association.

3.     Provide 50% of all Aquatic certification trainings for the association – Lifeguard and YSL.

4.     Set up and maintain the Downtown YMCA Aquatics center to provide certification courses/trainings for the association.

Ensure all association personnel policies and procedures are adhered to within all Aquatics areas.
Lead Aquatic Cabinet using a team approach, listening first and developing best practices with the entire Aquatic Leadership team.
Collaborating with Human Resources on recruitment ideas and events for staff.
Supporting branch hiring by providing feedback on candidates when/if requested.
Develop and implement a mentoring/training for future Lifeguards and Aquatic Directors through the Downtown Aquatic schedule.
Train new Aquatic Directors in the Aquatic Safety Manual, procedures and all daily expectations.
Assist a branch by helping to manage their Aquatic Center when there is an Aquatic Director vacancy.
 

Program Innovation:

Supervise the recruitment, management and growth of swim lessons for Downtown 
Lead the development of the annual plan along with new innovative programs for aquatics programs that increase enrollment, engagement and participation.
Track data, provide reports, and propose efficiencies that will drive engagement and increase revenue.
Routinely evaluate program and service quality to ensure standards are in place and are adhered to.
Conduct audits randomly on staff at branches across the Association.
Review and update, if needed, the Aquatics Safety Manual and supporting procedures. 

Fiscal Management:

Manage and help develop the annual Aquatics budget for the Downtown YMCA.
In partnership with Cabinet, develop and implement strategies to grow program participation and revenue.
Assist with the development of annual branch Aquatics budgets by providing trends and assumptions.
Understand, implement and monitor financial controls and inventories as guidance is provided. 

General:

2.     Maintain complete familiarity with all Aquatics related risk management procedures and policies.

3.     Promote and support the Strong Community Campaign.

4.     Participate in association-wide projects when needed.

5.     All other duties as assigned.

EFFECT ON END RESULT:  The number of trained lifeguards, swim instructors and Aquatic Directors will increase, safety procedures will continue to be the highest priority among all staff, and member satisfaction will increase.  The Greater Wichita YMCA will be seen as the community leader in aquatics programs.    

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience Requirements: 

1.     Bachelor’s Degree preferred

2.     Six years of Aquatics experience

3.     Lifeguard Instructor Certification and YSL Instructor Certification required

4.     Four years of supervisory and management experience required

Physical/Mental Requirements: 

1.     Must be able to routinely perform the following physical activities; climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit and stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, and talk, hear and have visual acuity to perform detailed tasks 

2.     Must have ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing 

3.     Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment 

4.     Must be detail oriented and exhibit a high degree of accuracy and alertness 

5.     Must demonstrate initiative in absence of supervision 

6.     Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner 

7.     Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines 

8.     Must possess ability to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality 

9.     Must always present a neat and professional appearance 

$65,000.00 - $80,000.00
