The Blair Regional YMCA is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Finance Director to guide the organization’s fiscal operations and support long-term financial sustainability. The Finance Director plays a vital part in supporting the YMCA’s mission by ensuring that resources are responsibly managed, financial decisions align with strategic priorities, and staff have the tools and support they need to understand and manage their budgets effectively. This position collaborates closely with executive leadership, program directors, and external partners to develop organizational and departmental budgets, monitor financial performance, and provide clear, data-informed guidance for decision-making. The ideal candidate is both hands-on and strategic, able to strengthen internal financial systems while helping department directors understand and manage resources.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in accounting; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, and core accounting functions including financial reporting, budget development and monitoring, financial analysis, cash management, payroll, banking, investments, and debt financing.
  • Experience with nonprofit or fund accounting is preferred.
  • Proficiency with standard business software systems, accounting software (QuickBooks preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to learn new systems efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in an environment with substantial fluctuations in volume.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly and respectfully to staff with varying levels of financial understanding.
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal History Check, National Sex Offender Registry Verification, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check are required.

Budgeting & Financial Planning 

  • Leads the development of the annual organizational budget and guides department directors to prepare realistic program and operating budgets.
  • Conducts financial forecasting, including cash flow projections, to support short- and long-term planning.
  • Communicates with and supports the Executive Director and department directors by preparing and providing financial reports and analysis that ensure financial decisions align with strategy, sustainability, and YMCA priorities.
  • Reviews and approves program-related expenditures, including swim and gym team expenses, to ensure alignment with budget expectations.
  • Collaborates with department directors to analyze monthly financial performance and determine adjustments needed to align spending with program goals.
  • Identifies financial trends, risks, and opportunities and provides recommendations to support planning and decision-making.
  • Performs various accounting activities including: Preparation and recording journal entries, income statement and balance sheet account review; ensuring proper allocation of revenues and expenses to departments, programs and grants; managing deferred revenues, gift cards, and restricted revenues; account payable/receivable monitoring; making bank deposits; bookkeeping, overseeing month and year end closing; credit card sales reconciliations

Accounting Systems & Internal Controls 

  • Oversees the operations of the accounting/finance information systems to ensure accurate and consistent recording and reporting of all transactions, operations, assets, and liabilities.
  • Works closely with IT and software vendors to ensure systems provide accurate information and adequate internal controls.
  • Trains and supports staff in the use of accounting and financial systems to ensure accurate data entry.
  • In coordination with contracted CPA- monitors internal processes to verify compliance with policies and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Grants & Fundraising 

  • Monitors grant budget activity and completes required invoicing and reporting to ensure compliance with funding requirements and reporting deadlines.
  • Provides required financial documentation to assist in grant applications and renewals, including program budgets, cost breakdowns, and financial statements.
  • Supports the YMCA’s annual campaign and fundraising initiatives by providing financial oversight and documentation, and by actively participating in special events.

Payroll & Employee Benefits 

  • Plays a key role in the transition to a new externally contracted HRIS platform within the first quarter of 2026, which will shift day-to-day payroll processing responsibilities away from this position.
  • Prepares and processes payroll in QuickBooks, including collecting and verifying timesheets, entering payroll data, and generating paychecks, until the HRIS implementation is complete.
  • Collaborates with HR to train and assist staff in the use of the HRIS system to ensure consistent and accurate payroll and timekeeping practices once the system is active.
  • Prepares and files federal, state, and local payroll withholdings and reports in accordance with regulatory requirements during the transition period, and assists with configuring payroll and benefit deductions within the HRIS.
  • Monitors YMCA Retirement Fund (YERDI) eligibility, enrollment, and payments to ensure accurate and timely contributions.
  • Partners with the Executive Director to secure and manage insurance coverage for the YMCA, including liability and employee benefits.

Mission & Organizational Alignment 

  • Maintains confidentiality and professional integrity consistent with the mission and values of the YMCA.
    Uses, maintains, and safeguards equipment, financial resources, and organizational records responsibly; reports any concerns or required maintenance.
  • Ensures that all incidents and unusual occurrences are documented and reported in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Performs general administrative duties including document management, routine correspondence, and recordkeeping to support efficient operations.
  • Actively participates in and, when appropriate, leads staff meetings, trainings, and organizational development efforts.
  • Contributes to YMCA initiatives and supports organizational needs by performing additional duties as assigned.
