The Hartman Family YMCA is seeking a Vice President of Organizational Accessibility to champion accessibility, inclusive program design, and a unified member experience across all branches. This executive leader will guide strategic initiatives that ensure the Y becomes a national model for universal design and inclusive community engagement.

This position will receive a minimum of 4 weeks Paid-Time Off, Holiday Pay, Full-Time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Household Membership.

Annual Salary: $120,000, depending on Experience

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general guidance of the Chief Experience Officer, the Vice President of Organizational Accessibility provides executive leadership for the Hartman Family YMCA’s operations and programs while serving as the Association’s lead strategist for accessibility and inclusive, unified programming. The VP is accountable for developing the Hartman Family YMCA to contribute significantly to the creation of a nationally recognized model of ultra-accessible facility design, programming, and culture, and for translating this model into scalable practices across the YMCA of Greater San Antonio. This role sits on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), leads applicable cabinets and cross-functional teams, and is responsible for advancing Vision 2030 and Association strategic priorities related to accessibility, inclusion, and member experience.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Recreation, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Relevant certifications such as Certified Adaptive Recreation and Sports Specialist (CARSS), Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), or similar.
  3. Seven to ten years of increasingly responsible leadership experience in nonprofit, community-based, or related organizations, including direct responsibility for operations, programs, or facilities.
  4. Demonstrated experience leading accessibility, disability inclusion, universal design, or equity-focused initiatives strongly preferred.
  5. Proven success managing budgets, driving revenue and membership growth, and improving operational performance.
  6. Experience leading cross-functional teams and complex change initiatives.
  7. Strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders, including members, staff, volunteers, community partners, and donors.
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to Boards, committees, and external audiences.
  9. Must be 21 years of age or older, maintain a valid driver’s license and auto insurance, complete required annual driving training, be YMCA driver-approved, and be able to travel between branch locations as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Work is performed in an ultra-accessible YMCA facility, sports complex, and throughout all locations served by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio.
  2. Position requires attending meetings at different off-site locations and out-of-state travel, on occasion.
  3. Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.
  4. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  5. Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative to work within deadlines.

Branch Operations

  1. Provides leadership and strategic direction to branch staff by coaching performance based on the annual goals of the Hartman Family YMCA in alignment with Vision 2030.
  2. Demonstrates a high level of fiscal competence through accurate budget forecasting and variance reporting in accordance with Y accounting practices.
  3. Models the 5 Voice Attributes of Welcoming, Nurturing, Genuine, Determined, and Hopeful as a guide for staff and member engagement.
  4. Demonstrates relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and community partners.
  5. Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs and leads branch staff in the planning, development and implementation of new program initiatives and activities.
  6. Designs and leads pilots of new accessible and unified program models; documents learning and develops replication toolkits for other Y branches.
  7. Benchmarks against national and international best practices in accessibility, inclusive recreation, and universal design, and recommends
  8. Engages members and families with lived experience as co-designers through focus groups, advisory panels, and usability testing.
  9. Presents the Hartman model at conferences, networks, and Y-USA convenings to position the YMCA of Greater San Antonio as a thought leader in organizational accessibility.

Staff Development

  1. Supervises, coaches, and manages the performance of Y branch staff according to all relevant YMCA policies, procedures, and applicable employment laws.
  2. Develops and promotes a member-focused staff culture based on relationship-building, active listening, and member engagement.
  3. Ensures that all Y policies and procedures are adhered to within the branch.
  4. Develops, implements, and maintains personal staff development plans for staff, in partnership with the Organizational Development team.


Association-Wide Leadership (SLT)

  1. The Vice President of Organizational Accessibility models the Y values by championing equitable access, universal design, and a culture where members and staff of all abilities fully belong.
  2. Leads association-wide accessibility initiatives through the Senior Leadership Team and cabinets.
  3. Ensures that the member experience is at the center of everything we do.
  4. Creates a culture of inclusion to ensure the mission of the Y is upheld, diversity is valued, and all are welcome.
  5. Maintains a clean, safe facility that lends itself to great member engagement

Community Development

  1. Develops and leads an Advisory Board or Community Accessibility Council in collaboration with the Senior Strategy Team, ensuring lived experience from people with disabilities and caregivers informs design and programming.
  2. Builds partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, disability service organizations, advocacy groups, and local government to co-create and expand inclusive and unified programming.
  3. Represents the YMCA of Greater San Antonio in local, state, and national networks related to accessibility, inclusion, and universal design.


Philanthropy and Fundraising

  1. Works with the Philanthropy team to identify, cultivate, and steward donors, foundations, and corporate partners whose priorities align with accessibility and inclusion.
  2. Collaborates with the Senior Leadership Team to design and implement a long-term sustainability plan for ultra-accessible design and unified programming, including capital campaigns, endowment growth, and grant strategies.
  3. Serves as a visible spokesperson and storyteller for the impact of accessibility initiatives, engaging major donors and community leaders.
