The Program Director provides leadership and oversight for all YMCA health and wellness and sports programs at the Grand River Area Family YMCA. This position is responsible for program development, staff and volunteer leadership, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management while ensuring high-quality programs that support the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
Must be 21 years or older.
Two to three years of related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor.
Within 45 days of hire, completion of required training: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR, AED & First Aid Certifications; Bloodborne Pathogen; Sexual Harassment.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Have strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
Needs to be a self-starter, able to handle multiple tasks under limited supervision, work well in a team setting, and be detail-oriented.
Have experience with and knowledge of computers.
Possess a positive and professional attitude.
Manage, direct, and coordinate all the programs assigned (youth and adult sports and health and wellness programs).
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Manage day-to-day operations in assigned programs in accordance with the strategic plan.
Develop a high-functioning staff team. This is accomplished through recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and leading staff.
Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
Research, facilitate, and build quality programs that provide excellent member satisfaction.
Establish new program activities and expand programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
Develop, manage, and control budgets related to the position. Ensure programs operate within budget.
Ensure that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
Maintain proper records and department files.
Organize special events and assist in YMCA fundraising activities.
Assist in marketing and distribution of program information. This includes, but not limited to, newsletters, emails, mobile notifications, open house events, and vendor fairs.
Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of program participation.
Responsible for keeping an equipment inventory and for the storage of programming equipment.
Follow all personnel, program, and state policies.
Always wear a name tag.
Work in conjunction with the membership staff providing the highest quality member onboarding experience possible. Develop specific programs for the onboarding of new and existing members and specific programs to enhance member retention.
Provide leadership, be knowledgeable, and supportive of the YMCA Annual Campaign.
Perform any other duties as assigned by CEO.
